We are seeking a Health and Safety Superintendent to join our team. Under the supervision of the HR and H&S manager, the H&S superintendent has a strategic role in planning and managing the health and safety management of the work sites in accordance with the regulations, laws, internal standards and client’s standards. In collaboration with his team, he develops, deploys and evaluates the health and safety strategies in line with Agrégat’s philosophy, challenges and positioning. As a mentor, they ensure the proper implementation of programs and policies by his team in the various areas of action. 

Main responsibilities

  1. Ensure compliance and implementation of safe and environmental work methods and practices by the various stakeholders on sites
  • Promote health and safety principles and participate in OHS meetings when required. 
  • Collaborate in the implementation of OHS policies and procedures, ensure their application and take corrective action as required. 
  • Ensure superintendents and supervisors comply with worker and contractor training requirements and exercise due diligence. 
  • Conduct supervisory audits. 
  • Participate in accident and incident analysis and investigation as required. 
  • Collaborate with the health and safety for training follow-ups, statistics if necessary. 
  1. Develop OHS prevention programs, action plans and policies, in compliance with the legislative framework, customer requirements and business issues
  • Drafts and continuously revises policies, programs and action plans. 
  • Formulate and recommend OHS objectives and establish performance indicators. 
  • Participate in the identification of PPE to be used to protect workers and the monitoring and maintenance measures to be applied. 
  • Write compliance and statistical reports requested by Agrégat or by the client. 
  • Participate in prevention-related development and support and advise management on this issue. 
  • Establish training needs and the means implemented to achieve them and train the people concerned on the OHS policies and programs put in place. 
  1. Supervise and mobilize the team under their supervision
  • Participate in the establishment of annual performance objectives. 
  • Coordinate team meetings. 
  • Ensure the maintenance and optimal distribution of the workload of the H&S coordinators. 
  • Ensure the management of schedules and holidays of team members (direct reports). 
  • Determine the training and skills development needs of your team, in partnership with human resources. 
  • Follow up on the daily requests of the team under his responsibility. 
  • Communicate objectives and evaluate the performance of their team. 
  • Perform disciplinary management, in collaboration with the Human Resources. 
  1. Ensure the standardization of our H&S requirement across our different Ontario sites
  • Create, review, update and standardize SOPs; 
  • Create, review, update and standardize forms; 
  • Follow-up on JSHCs; 
  • Audit the respect between digital and paper standards; 
  • Communicate legislation changes.

Qualifications and skills sought

QUALIFICATIONS 

  • Health and safety or management University degree. 
  • 5 years of experience in H&S management. 
  • Relevant experience in team management. 
  • Mine experience (an asset). 

TECHNICAL SKILLS 

  • Good knowledge of software (Word and Excel) and computerized H&S management system (an asset). 
  • Knowledge about the greenbook and MOL legislation; 
  • Knowledge of industry standards and regulations. 
  • Ability to write clear and understanding various documents and reports. 
  • Knowledge of heavy equipment.
